If you want to have the same success that I did this past Thanksgiving, you will want to make this pie using my 'Nana's Pie Dough' recipe. The pie was so good, that unfortunately it threw my WW points for the week. Only because I didn't have the willpower to stop at a little slice! Serve it to a large dinner party, for the perfect warm sweet finish to your meal.
Ingredients
1 batch of Nana's Pie dough
3 granny smith apples
3 red apples (Royal gala are nice)
1/2 cup of unsalted butter
2 tablespoons of all purpose flour
1/2 cup of white sugar
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup of water
1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
Preheat over to 400 degrees.
Roll out dough to desired thickness and pan size. Line pie plate with dough and then using a fork, dart the bottom a few times.
Start with a large sauce pan, and melt butter. Add flour and stir to create a paste. Add both sugars and water and bring to a low boil. Turn to low setting and add spices. Toss apples in mixture making sure to coat all sides. Let sit for about 5 minutes, and then pour all apples and the juices into the prepared pie dish.
Cover with top pastry and pierce with fork to allow the steam to vent.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Turn heat down to 350 degrees and bake for another 35 minutes.
Let sit undisturbed on a cooling rack until ready to serve! Top with vanilla ice creammmmmmmm.
